“holographic” concerts are not a cost-cutting measure. They are actually much more expensive to produce than regular concerts. The animation process takes months, and the projection equipment is both expensive and costly to transport. Gorillaz looked at doing hologram concerts and decided it wasn’t economically feasible. And for all the talk of hologram MJ or Tupac going on tour, nobody has figured out a way of doing it that makes money.

Hatsune Miku concerts are done at a loss, as a promotional vehicle. That’s why there are only a few every year. Crypton Future Media makes the money back through sale of their Vocaloid software, and commercial licensing deals.

Hey Alan, I appreciate your opinion on the subject and I’m sure there is some truth to it. But in my defense, there are multiple sources which say that Tupac’s holographic performance costed around $400,000. Which is much less than many headlining acts would ask for. Although it does take months of programming, I’m sure an extensive human production for a touring show takes more time, effort, and possibly money to take on the road. And as technology enhances, costs will be cut lower and lower for these holographic shows.

I had a pair of Punkyrose sneaks, with pinstripes and a skull print. They were cute but pretty poor quality, they fell apart and got holes in the bottoms within a month. But I wore them every day and bought them for supercheap, so I suupose they were worth it!
