Damages paid by P2P website services has so far gone only to the record companies. Artists and managers are looking for their share of the monies paid in settlements. At the moment, artists are being paid an average of $45.05 for every $1000 pirated. The proposed method of payment by artists and managers would entitle them to $315.50 for every $1000 pirated.

Paul McGuinness, manager of U2, spoke in Cannes strongly against Internet Service Providers(ISPs).His stance is that because ISPs are not helping in the fight against piracy, the music business is taking a great hit, and something needs to be done either by a voluntary solution or legislation.The second part of the article address's the unsuccessful launch of Qtrax after it strongly promoted its self at MIDEM.

The trade value of sales of recorded music in China in 2006 was U$47m, according to the IFPI. The retail value of these sales was 121.2m, which represents a 24.5% growth from the previous year.

French ISPs, music and film copyright owners, and the government signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combat online piracy. This government-sponsered independent body will determine a method to end illegal file sharing.

US DoJ submitted the Intellectual Property Bill to Congress. The bill would strengthen existing laws concerning piracy and counterfeiting. Most significantly is the creation of a new crime of attempting to commit copyright infringement.
