The EU commissioner proposed to extend the term of copyright in sound recordings in the EU from 50 years to 95 years. He argued that since composers' terms are longer, the performers' terms should be as well.Login to post comments

The CEA is an agreement between the major music publishers and European mechanical right societies that regulates commission rates charged by the societies. UMPG withdrawing its repertoire, or at least threatening to do so, is an indication that they are unhappy with the terms set forth by this agreement. If a radical revision of the CEA is not put into play soon, UMPG is likely to collect royalties directly from record companies.Login to post comments
