After several years were spent trying to settle a dispute between ASCAP and AOL, RealNetworks, and Yahoo a federal court has finally ruled in favor of ASCAP. The Federal court decided to adopt ASCAP’s proposed top-down calculation of royalties. Now, the above three digital services will be given blanket licenses that will allow them to perform any song of any ASCAP member as often as the would like and to do it through any type of service.

Us performing rights organisation ASCAP has reported a 9.9% increase in its collections to $ 863.3m in 2007. This is a record as the largest ever collected by any PRO.
