Video game hits like "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" have successfully been able to bring back classic rock hits to the mainstream, but can the same be done for new music? Motley Crue recently released their new single "Saints of Los Angeles" as a downloadable track on "Rock Band" in advance of their June 24 album release. The track reportedly downloaded 47,000 times via the Xbox 360 version of the game alone within the first week it was made available. That is pretty big compared to the 10,000 tracks it sold via iTunes and Amazon, especially since the downloads from "Rock Band" are only able to play on the game and are not transferable to a computer or MP3 player. This has been a similar case with other new songs released on the video game. It is looking like there will be a problem converting sales from the game to sales of albums and digital tracks.
