The retail value of digital download sales last year in the US accounted for 23%, of $2.4 billion, of the total revenues generated by recorded music according to the RIAA. This is a substantially large amount, but due to the drop in physical CD sales recently it is not as significant as one would like. CD album sales dropped 17.5% since last year and the growth of digital sales decreased when compared to its growth in 2006. Sales of iPods seems to be slowing down as well. Amazon has not published numbers, but appears to not have made much ground on the iTunes store in the marketplace.
