In Europe, the term extension for sound recordings my soon be adopted. Though with this announcement come responses that are not all positive. The European Commission plans to ask that copyright protection on sound recordings be moved from 50 years of protection to 95 years. While the EC believes that this will benefit artist as well as their sidemen because people in the EU are now living longer, other against it would say that it does nothing to promote creativity and this being done just to appease lobbyist. People that are against it also believe that the money collected during the years added would end up going into the hands of the wrong people and never truly benefit those who are entitled to it. While both sides can see and sympathize with artists and their financial issues, many feel that there are better ways to help them than the idea that is being presented now.
