The video game Grand Theft Auto IV is set for release April 29th and is set to quickly make history for several reasons. It is forecasted to break single-day and opening-week sales records and could become the best-selling video game of all time. The most important part to the music industry is its revolutionary soundtrack. The soundtrack is rumored to have over 200 tracks. GTA uses music as an integral part of the game, but in a different way that games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The game will have 16 different radio stations with 10-15 songs on each. It also marks the first time where songs and artists are actually being compensated for the use of the tunes, unlike before in video games where the idea of use was mainly for promotion. Rockstar games is paying as much as $5,000 per composition and another $5,000 per master, making the soundtrack budget over $2 million. The game will also allow players to mark songs played during the game for later purchase online at Amazon.com. This will help track the efficiency and popularity of this venture in gaming and music.
