Record labels have been diligently trying to capitalize upon the recent success of teen heartthrob Justin Bieber. The desperate race for the next teen star can be understood by 12 year old Greyson Chance and his ability to secure representation by managers Guy Oseary (Madonna) and Troy Carter (Lady Gaga). In addition he prompted Ellen DeGeneres to start her own label and sign him as her first artist. Chance became an online sensation after he posted a video of his rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi”. As of now Chance has yet to record any material. However those representing him hope to secure content similar to Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. VP of A&R at Def Jam, Kawan Prather recognizes the impact of Bieber’s success. “People are less scared to sign teen artists outside of the Disney/Nickelodeon formula”. Cody Simpson may be another potential teen star whose career is set for launch. His Manager Blue Williams acknowledges a new perspective of labels. “Little girls like to have artists that make them scream, whose posters they can put up on their walls. We’ve been so busy chasing a hit single or a hot record, we stopped making stars. “
