BUZZWORD: Harry Fox Agency
The National Music Publisher’s Association formed the Harry Fox Agency in 1927. The goal was to establish an agency that would service and collect royalties on behalf of the publishers while also handling licensing musical copyrights. Today, while still collecting and distributing monies for U.S. publishers, the Harry Fox Agency licenses the largest percentage of the mechanical and digital uses of music in the United States on CD’s, digital services, records, tapes and imported phonorecords. In an ongoing effort to add value and strength to the music rights industry, the HFA provides not only publishers, but also artists and other music users with information on copyright and licensing to bring awareness to those about the legal ways of using music.
